A JAPANESE world-record freediver has died aged 30 after falling from her flat onto a car park below.

Sayuri Kinoshita was found by a neighbour last Thursday morning and was rushed to hospital.

She was placed on a life support machine but her family announced that she had passed away four days later.

A statement on her Facebook page claimed that "the injuries she sustained were too extensive to survive."

It added: "Despite this, her body was so strong that she kept fighting another four days before her heart finally gave up on Japan’s National Ocean Day, the 15th of July.

"She was surrounded by her family and friends.

"It was Sayuri’s wish that her friends and family would be able to enjoy a celebration of her amazing life at a ‘farewell party’ for a bright and enjoyable day, separate from the wake and funeral service.”

Police believe there is no foul play involved but are left unsure how she managed to fall.

Kinoshita broke the women’s world record for free-diving in the Constant Weight No Fins (CNF) discipline in 2016 with a dive of 72 metres.

She was the first woman to break any of the records held by legendary Russian freediver Natalia Molchanova.

In 2018 she broke the Free Immersion women’s world record with a dive of 97 metres.
