DAYTONA, Fla. (WGHP) — On the heels of a second-place run in the Daytona 500 in 2023, driver Joey Logano says he’s ready for the win.
Kevin Connolly and Danny Harnden of Nexstar’s WGHP and WFLA’s JB Biunno spent Wednesday afternoon catching up with drivers as they get ready to hit the speedway this Sunday for the Daytona 500.
Logano, of Middletown, Connecticut, drives the No. 22 Ford for Team Penske. He has 15 full seasons in the NASCAR Cup Series behind him, including championship wins in 2018 and 2022.
After his winning season in 2022, he came in 12th in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series and claimed one victory, down from four the previous year, according to NASCAR. But he’s no stranger to bouncing back. He claimed his first title win in 2018, the year after failing to reach the 2017 playoffs.
This will be his 16th Daytona 500, including a win in 2015. After that win, he came in sixth in 2016 and 2017, fourth in 2018 and 2019, and second in 2023. He had less impressive runs in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
“So many times we’ve been so close,” Logano said. “The times you didn’t bring up we were leading on the last lap and wrecked. It’s been a great race for us. We’re so close, but one win nine years ago is, like, eh. I’m about ready for another one.”
And he’s got the confidence to do it, thanks in no small part to the support of his team.
“It’s all about having that opportunity to win, like you said. I put myself in a great position, a great team around me, great people that puts me in a spot that I can win any race,” Logano said.
DraftKings puts his odds of winning the 2024 championship at 12-1.
